Building the Future with Light: Jakub Pánek’s Second Chapter at FABLab Bangkok

By FabLab Bangkok | with Jakub Pánek – Founder of Revolumix which is a tech startup focused on developing volumetric displays—a technology that brings real 3D holograms to life without the need for headsets or special glasses.

When Jakub Pánek first walked into FABLab Bangkok, he was one of many makers drawn by the spark of possibility. His first visit 3 years ago was driven by exploration—finding and testing ideas in a place that thrives on innovation. Read his first FABLab experience here.

Fast-forward to today, and Jakub is back—this time, with a vision to reshape the future through holograms.

What inspired this project?

“The vision of the future I have in my mind—how could the future exist without holograms?”

Jakub’s imagination starts his journey. Inspired by science fiction and practical innovation, he’s tackling the challenge of making holographic volumetric displays a reality. The goal? Create immersive, 3-dimensional visuals that float in space—a view into a future where information is no longer limited to screens.

What’s the solution?

Through his startup “Revolumix”, Jakub is developing volumetric displays—a step beyond traditional 3D screens, allowing viewers to see different perspectives without VR headsets or glasses. It’s not just visual magic—it’s a leap in how we interact with data, design, and the digital world.

How FABLab Bangkok played a role

“FABLab provided the space and tools to work—and more importantly, friendly people around.”

Returning to FabLab Bangkok felt natural. With its 24/7 access, great equipment, and a community of curious minds, it offered Jakub the launchpad for prototyping and testing his product designs.

Whether it was the laser cutter, FDM & resin printer, or just a soldering station at midnight, FabLab became Jakub’s creative playground

Favorite things about FabLab Bangkok?

Jakub appreciates more than just the tools:

  • Open 24/7 access (yes, innovation happens at 3 AM!)
  • Central location
  • Friendly staff and fellow members
  • Well-equipped and versatile spaces

Then vs. Now: What’s changed?

In his first blog, Jakub talked about FABLab as a community of makers. This time, it’s also about deep prototyping and bringing a futuristic vision to life. His engagement has shifted from curious exploration to serious building—and FABLab’s infrastructure has continued to support both.

“Last time, it was about discovering space. Now, it’s about using it as a launchpad.”

Suggestions for FabLab’s Future

As a seasoned maker, Jakub offers constructive ideas to help FabLab evolve:

  • Tool organization: Centralizing tools in a more accessible, unified location
  • Access system: A proper card or key system for 24/7 access to more zones
  • Community building: Growing a larger, more active group of regular makers

Wishlist: Nuts, Bolts & Beyond

“I’d love to see an assortment of nuts and bolts available on-site. That’s something I always have to order from Shopee!”

Sometimes, the smallest components make the biggest difference. Jakub envisions FABLab as a one-stop creative hub—not just for high-end machines, but for the essential fasteners and materials that make prototyping smoother.

Looking Ahead

Jakub’s return to FABLab Bangkok is proof of what the space is becoming: a beacon for long-term innovators, not just weekend tinkerers. As he and his team at Revolumix continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with holography, FABLab remains both a facilitator and a collaborator.

His journey reminds us that the future is built in community—one hologram at a time.
